About Maatjie Arena

What we make

Maatjie Arena is a free pet-raising and battling game for children, played in a web browser, with an Android app on the way. Players hatch an egg, care for their pet as it grows up over about four days, add friends with a private friend code, and then battle in a friendly, turn-based arena where clever play matters more than time spent.

Who we are

Maatjie Arena is made and published by Tiny Twigs Studio, in South Africa.

How we make it

• Every pet, outfit, room and arena on this website is drawn by the game's own code, in one friendly, rounded style.
• Two rooms began as drawings by children, re-made in the game's style. See Rooms.
• The game's server works out every result, so nobody can cheat their way up the ranks.
• The money rules are written down and never bent: nothing random is ever sold, nothing bought helps in battle, and nothing in the shop is ever on a timer.
• Safety comes first: no chat, nicknames that are filtered and can be reported, friends only by private code, and online status off unless a grown-up switches it on.
